Rare Air Episode 37

This episode of Rare Air is a time capsule from Caneel Bay in July, 2017… two months before Hurricane Irma hit, leading to the resort’s immediate closure. Today, it’s still closed, and its future uncertain. Who would have guessed?

Beth and I spent two unforgettable afternoons here in 2016 and in 2017, spoiling ourselves at the heavenly oasis for cocktails and wonderful food. Caneel Bay Resort employed about 400 people at that time. The night I shot this footage, many were gathering on the pier to catch the boat to Cruz Bay.

It’s easy to learn more about the ongoing plight of Caneel Bay Resort, and to find photos and video of the wreckage after the 2017 storms. We’re hoping the resort will soon be restored to its full glory, to host new generations of guests experiencing unforgettable memories all their own.
