Sept. 27, 2000: Personal advice….

In the days since that last posting, we have traveled many miles and experienced much of the best that life has to offer. We are savoring the joys, and also the aftertaste of some of the sorrows, and very thankful to be right where we are. And yet, with so many ambitions still beckoning me personally, and with any given day producing only limited results of the types imagined, it is often a serious challenge to carry on, to begin the next endeavor. This quandary has been the source of inspiration for many of the poems I’ve written. Here’s one from 2000, where the counsel offered is intended to drive this writer on to new heights.

Advice

by Roger Darnell

Here’s my advice to you:
Read this and know that you have arrived.
Sense the living freshness of your awakening.
Make your decision now that all has changed.
Accept the possibility — and grasp the truth.
Take nothing you’ve done that led here for granted.
Know that each step, every stumble was required.
Arise to the challenges you’ve forgotten.
Remember what it’s like to be young;
savor that strength and use it as ammunition.
Hunt the prey that has evaded you.
Outsmart any opposition that hesitates.
Race on — the wind will fill your sails!
Earn the prize of the champion.
Capture what’s yours and what’s meant to be.
See to your destiny, with my full confidence.
Now, do you want any more advice?
