In August, 1985, I began my first semester of studies at the University of Central Florida. I had earned credit for English Comp 101 as a result of Mrs. Alice Wright‘s wonderful AP English class that was the highlight of my senior year of high school, so that first semester, I set my sites on Comp II. Awaiting me and many others there in a packed classroom on the UCF campus was Mr. Ronald Vierling. Over the arduous weeks that followed, he became my arch-nemesis, the chief disruptor of my life, and a frustrating symbol of many precarious aspects of life for me at that time. Twenty-five years later, I see how much he means to me.
I put myself through college working full-time, and I also completed a six-year commitment to the U.S. Air Force Reserves by the time I graduated in 1990, and I had a lot of objectives at that time. One big one was to have my artistry as a poet recognized, just as my writing professor had done, as shown in the published clipping he shared with us, which follows below.
He was a hard man to please when it came to term-papers, but he made a very positive impression on me, as a writer of my time.
Roger: I am not only flattered in the extreme by your lovely comments, I am pleased you did, in fact, continue to write. Good on you. I trust I may hear from you personally sometime in the not too distant future. My website, which you must have found since the picture of me is from the site, details the writing I have published thus far. More to come.
Cheers from here, Ronald
It’s great to hear from you Mr. Vierling. I also have fond memories from running into you and (then) young Rider on that crazy 1991 film production of “New Walden.” I hope all’s well for you both and your family! Wishing you all the best.
Sincerely — Roger D.
Thanks for sharing this useful information! Hope that you will continue with the kind of stuff you are doing.
I do not really have much to say in response, I only wanted to register to reply well done. My fiance really loved your point of view. It looks like you have put a lot of effort into your post and this world need much more of these on the Internet these days.
Very well written tale. It will be valuable to anyone who finds it, including yours truly :). Keep up the good work – looking forward to more posts.
