Rare Air Episode 29

Back in May, Beth and I celebrated our 26th anniversary with a weekend trip to Cashiers, North Carolina, which is located in the area I’ve been writing about since August. As a family, we’ve made a lot of special memories in Transylvania County since our kids have come to be. On this year’s anniversary getaway, Beth and I discovered some areas we’ve never seen before.

We had originally planned to camp out, but the headline for May’s weather report was emphatic: “Rain!” The previous record for May in Asheville was exceeded by 25% by month’s end, soaking us and the region with about a foot’s worth of precipitation, and causing extensive flooding of our waterways. As you’ve heard, issues arising due to extra rainwater in North Carolina have not exactly subsided since then.

On May 19, we made our way around the highways of Transylvania, Jackson and Macon counties, stopping here and there to admire Mother Nature’s beauty, while standing in awe of her power, as evidenced on the Cullasaja River.
