The truth is this: The moment contained in this Rare Air episode took place a little under five years ago. I have to remind myself of this, due to it feeling, in many ways, like it was a different lifetime.
Since spending our first days and nights in the Limetree Cove beach cottage, I have come a long distance in accomplishing some big life goals which, back then, were still just a dream. Their achievement began and ended with the diligence I refer to as writing. As I sit here today putting finishing touches on yet another incremental personal writing project, my muse is with me, and we feel very blessed.
In July, 2019, Beth and I flew away from our Asheville home to play in St. John for a week. About a month later, Amelia would leave for college, while Riley and his Uncle Kurtis bandmates would reach their own exciting new heights. For us as people and parents, we did our best to adopt the growth mindsets manifested by our children: seeing new aspirations, then positioning ourselves to pursue them.
Meanwhile, in this relatively secluded harbor on a tropical island, we were just two more happy creatures going for a swim, seeing what we could see, putting our lives in perspective … and having ourselves a very good day.
