In 2018, a trip to The Big Island, Hawaii, introduced us and our kids to some spectacular scenery. Looking out across the island’s barren lava fields makes one rethink life itself, and its living flora and creatures automatically stretch our imaginations in exciting new directions, too. It all points the way to something more than the eye can see. Closing my eyes, I breathe deep, and the breeze honors me from every direction, even showering me with some of the leaves that have done their time aloft and now begin a transition back to dust. The present is so hard to latch onto completely... it seems so transitory and elusive. But after all, what we have is the now.
